Applying the KWLH (KNOW, WANT, LEARN, HOW) Technique To Improve the Students’ Reading Ability at the First Grade of SMP Negeri 1 Ladongi

Based on the background above, the research question was formulate as follow ’’ how can the KWLH Technique to improve the students’ reading ability at the first grade of SMP Negeri 1 Ladongi?’’. The objective of the research is : ’’To know the improve the students’ ability in reading text at the first grade of SMP Negeri 1 Ladongi. The significant of the research are : ’’expected could be useful in learning process to improving the students’ of reading text and through KWLH Technique. The scope of the research to the field of linguistic subject in term of English language teaching process especially in reading, this research explain about reading comprehension by using KWLH Technique and students are give English text to read. The definition key terms is ’’ reading text, improve is a process, and KWLH Technique.

The review of related literature consists some research finding, reading text , kinds of reading, reading tactics, reading comprehention , the concept of teaching, and the concept of KWLH Technique.

The design of this research was collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR). Setting and subject of the research was conducted at the first grade of SMP Negeri 1 Ladongi in academic year of 2014/2015. The subject of the research was class VII A in academic 2014/2015. Instrument of the research follows conducting preliminary test, collecting the students’ reading at the end of each cycle, and conducting observation during the reading class by using observation sheet.

Meanwhile in the from of the product, the improvements can be seen from to aspect. Firstly, the average score of a students was 57 in first cycle. Only there 5 (16%) students get score greater them equal score 65, and 27 (84%) students didn’t get score the creteria of success. Mean while is the second cycle it was found that the students’ average score was 76. There were 31 (97%) of the students got score greater than equal 65. Only there 1 (3%) students didn’t get score the criteria of success. The average of the students’ activities percentage in the first cycle was 40%. It belongs to good the average of the students percentage in the second cycle was 88%. It belongs to very good. Third the average of the teacher activities percentage in the first cycle was 55%. It belongs to good, the average of the teacher persentage in the second cycle was 87%. It belongs to excellence.
