Improving  the  Students’  Speaking  Ability through Venn Diagram Strategy at Class X4  of SMA Negeri 1 Wundulako

              This classroom action research was aimed at improving the students’ speaking ability through Venn diagram strategy at class X4 of SMA Negeri 1 Wundulako. The research question of this research was “How is the improvement of the students’ speaking ability through Venn diagram strategy at class X4 of SMA Negeri 1 Wundulako in each cycle?”

The subject of this research was the students of class X4 who enrolled in academic year of 2014/2015 at SMA Negeri 1 Wundulako with total number were 24 students. The design of this research was collaborative classroom action research which applied seven steps were preliminary observation, analyzing preliminary finding, planning, implementing, observing, analyzing and reflecting. This research was conducted in two cycles which applied two kinds of instruments, which were speaking test and observation sheet. And the percentage of the students’ success in this research was 80% of the total students got ≥ 67      as the criterion of minimum completeness.

The finding of this research shows that the students’ speaking ability improved significantly form cycle one to cycle two. In cycle one, there were only 11 students of 24 students got score ≥ 67. Thus, the mean score was 57, 3 and the percentage of students’ success was 46%. In cycle two, the mean score increased 11, 1 and the percentage of students’ success increased 37%. Where there were 20 of 24 students got score ≥ 67. Therefore, the mean score was 68, 4 and the percentage of students’ success was 83%.

Based on the finding above, this research revealed that Venn diagram strategy could improve the students’ speaking ability.
