Improving Reading Comprehension through Guided Strategy of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 2 Lasusua

This research was designed to improve the students’ reading comprehension through guided strategy at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Lasusua. The researcher formulated a research question “How the guided strategy can improve reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of  SMP Negeri 2 Lasusua in year 2016 through Guided strategy?” in addition, the objective of the research was generally aimed to improve the students’ reading comprehension through guided strategy of the eighth grade student of SMPN 2 Lasusua. The scope of the research was focused on the learning reading narrative text comprehension through guided strategy.

The designed of the research was collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR). It means that when doing the research, the researcher collaborated withy the English teacher of SMPN 2 Lasusua. The subject of this research was class VIII A of SMPN 2 Lasusua in academic year of 2016/2017. This research was conducted in two cycle.

Based on the result of the research, it was found that guided strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension. The improvement were supported by some evidents. First, it could be seen from the improvement of the average students’ value which showed from preliminary research the students’ only reached average 50,78 or only 5 of 19 students or 26,31% got the score greater than or equel 66. Second, in the first cycle, the average of the students’ value was 67,31 were only 10 of 19 students or 52.63% got the score greater than oe equel to 66.

Meanwhile in the second cycle, the average value of the students’ reading comprehension through guided strategy become 76,05 there were 15 of 19 students’ or 78,94% got the greater or equel to 66. Third, the students were actively involved in the teaching and learning process. It can be seen from the result of analysis of observation sheet. So it can be conclude that guided strategy can improved the students’ reading comprehension of the eighth grade students’ of SMPN 2 Lasusua.
