Improving the Students’ Reading Comprehension Through Numbered Heads Together (Nht) at the Second Grade of SMP Negeri 10 Poleang Selatan

This research was designed to Improvement the Students’ Reading Comprehension Through Numbered Heads Together (Nht) at the Second Grade of SMP Negeri 10 Poleang Selatan.

The design of this research was collaborative Classroom Action Research which was processed by setting up planning, implementation, observing, analyzing and reflecting. This study was conducted in two cycles. Each cycles contained four meetings.

The data of this research was obtained from the result of Recount text and observation sheets. They were taken during implementation of the action. The findings of this research show that Numbered Heads Together (NHT) Technique could improve Students’ Reading Comprehension. The improvement could be described as follow (1) the average score of cycle one were 40% improve 90%  in cycle two; (2) the result of observation sheet for students in cycle one were 3 (average) in meeting one, 42, 85 (average) in meeting two,  48, 57 (poor) in meeting three 57,14 and cycle two improve 62 (fair) in meeting one, 77 (good) in meeting two, and 85 (good) in meeting three; (4) while teacher activities result of cycle one were 50 (poor) in meeting one, 60 (fair) in meeting two, 68 (fair)  in meeting three and cycle two improve 70 (good) in meeting one, 80 (good) in meeting two and 82 (excellent) in meeting three.

Finally, it is recommended for the English teachers to apply Numbered Heads Together as one of the alternatives that could be used Reading Comprehension.
