Improving the Students’ Vocabulary Mastery through Gesture at the Second Grade of Smp Negeri 03 Poleang

This thesis was designed to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery through gesture at the second grade of SMP Negeri 03 Poleang. Question of the research is “How does vocabulary mastery through gesture could improve the students ‘vocabulary mastery at the second grade of SMP Negeri 03 Poleang ?”. Objectives of the research is “ to describe data and information whether or not the use of gesture technique could improve the student vocabulary mastery trough gesture of the second grade students’ of SMP Negeri 03 Poleang.
Significance of the research are : (1) for the teacher can use the vocabulary mastery through gesture, (2) for the students can use of vocabulary mastery trough gesture could make the student more enjoyable in doing their tasks associated with the gesture materials.
The design of this research was Collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR). It was intended to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery through gesture.
This research was conducted on, 2016 at the second grade of SMP Negeri 03 Poleang. Based on the result of this research it can be concluded that through gesture could improve the students’ vocabulary mastery at the second grade of SMP Negeri 03 Poleang. The improvement can be seen from two aspect, process and product. Firstly, in the form of process the students’ were actively involved in teaching and learning process. It can be seen from the result of the analysis of observation sheet in first cycle was, 2,14 and it belong to in the first cycle and it improved to be 3,8 and it belong to in the second cycle. Secondly, in form of product 14 students (53%) got to average 60 of vocabulary test in the first cycle and it improved to be 22 students (84%) got the score average 75 of vocabulary test in the second cycle. It means the result had achieved the criteria of success that was 80% the students got the average value equal or more 60.
Based on the finding of this research, it was suggested to English teacher to used gesture in teaching and learning process especially in teaching vocabulary.
