Improving the Students’ Reading Comprehension Through Discovery Learning Method at the Ninth Grade Students SMPN 2 Lasusua

The study was designed to improve the Students’ Comprehension in Reading through Discovery Learning Method at the ninth grade of SMPN 2 Lasusua. The writer formulated a study question “How is the improvement of students’ reading comprehension of SMPN 2 Lasusua in each cycle?” In addition, the objective of the study was generally aimed to improve the students’ reading ability through discovery learning method at the ninth grade of SMPN 2 Lasusua.
The design of the study was collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR). It means that when doing the study, the writer collaborated with the English teacher of ninth grade of SMPN 2 Lasusua. The subject of the study was the ninth grade of SMPN 2 Lasusua in academic year of 2015/2016. The study was conducted in two cycles.
The improvement of students’ comprehension in reading at the ninth grade of SMPN 2 Lasusua supported by some evidents. First, it could be seen from the improvement of the average students’ value which showed from the average of the students’ value was 62 in the first cycle where only 46% or 12 from 26 students got the score greater than or equal to 66.
Meanwhile in the second cycle, the average value of the students’ reading comprehension through discovery learning method became 71, there were 84% or 22 from 26 students got the greater then or equal to 66. Third, the students were actively involved in the teaching and learning process. It can be seen from the result of analysis of observation sheet. So it can be concluded that discovery learning method can improve the students’ reading comprehension at the ninth grade of SMPN 2 Lasusua.
