Improving the Students’ Vocabulary Mastery by Picture Media at the Second Grade of SMP Negeri 1 Poli-polia

This research was designed to improve students’ vocabulary mastery by Picture media at the second grade of SMP Negeri 1 Poli-polia. The research question was “How can picture media improve the students’ vocabulary mastery at the second grade of SMPN 1 Poli-Polia in each cycle?”. The objective of the research was to describe the students’ vocabulary mastery by picture media and specifically, to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery at the second grade ofSMPN 1 Poli-polia.Designof this research was collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) The data of this research was obtained from the result of vocabulary test and observation sheets. The findings of this research show that Picture Media could improve the students’ vocabulary mastery. The improvement could be described on the average score and the completeness. The average score of the first cycle was 55, 43 and completeness was 21,73% and improves in the second cycle, the average was 76,52 and completeness was 86,95%.
Finally, it is recommended for the English teacher to apply this media as one of the alternatives that could be used in teaching vocabulary. because this media could improve the students’ vocabulary mastery.
