Improving the Students’ Vocabulary Mastery by Using the Picture at the First Grade SMP Negeri Satu Atap Tongkoseng

 This thesis was designed to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery by using the picture at the first grade SMP Negeri Satu Atap Tongkoseng. The research question is “How can picture improve the students’ vocabulary mastery at the first grade of SMP Negeri Satu Atap Tongkoseng?” the objective of the researcher is  “describe data and information whether the picture can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery at the first grade of SMP Negeri Satu Atap Tongkoseng.The significances of the research are: (1) to improve the students’  vocabulary mastery by using picture (2) to be a source input to the English teacher in improving teaching and learning process in the classroom especially to the students’ vocabulary mastery and (3) as a solution for the students’ so they can improve their vocabulary by using picture. The design of this research was collaborative classroom action research (CAR). It was intended to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery by using the picture. This research was conducted on August 27th to September 19th, 2016 at the first grade of SMP Negeri Satu Atap Tongkoseng. Based on the result of this research it can be conducted that picture could improve the students’ vocabulary mastery at the first grade of SMP Negeri Satu Atap Tongkoseng. The improvement can be seen from two aspects, process and product. Firstly, in the first cycle average value 66,69  there was 10 of 23 students (47,82%) mastery the criteria of success become79,08 there were17 or 23 students (73,91%) mastery the criteria of success in the second cycle. It means the result has mastery the criteria of success that the students got the value greater than or equal 65 secondly; in the form of the process the students were actively involved in teaching and learning process. It can be seen from the result of the analysis of observation sheet in the first cycle was 2, 42 and it improved to be 4,57 in the second cycle. Based on the finding of this research, it was suggested to English teacher to used picture in teaching and learning process especially in teaching vocabulary.
