Student Ability of Class VII of SMP Negeri 05 East Poleang in Listening to the News
This research is motivated by the thought that the development of information and technology opens huge opportunities for everyone, not to mention students to access information or news. With the ability to listen to news content, students are expected to more easily understand and pervade various kinds of news in various media. The problem in this research is how is the ability of the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Napabalano in listening to the news content? The purpose of this research is to describe the ability of the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 05 Poleang Timur in listening to the news content. The method used in this research is the quantitative descriptive method, i.e. the researcher will describe objectively the results obtained by students in listening to the news content by using the figures in accordance with the statistical principles used in this study. This type of research belongs to field research. Researchers go directly to the study site to collect data according to the research problem. The sampling technique is to use the total sampling that is as much as 52 students consisting of two classes. The instrument used in this study is testing essay. To know the category of the ability to listen to the news content refers to the standard completeness of individual and classical learning used in SMP Negeri 05 East Poleang.
The result of research showed that 52 students (67, 31%) were able to listen to news content and 17 students (32, 69%) were unable to. It can be said that the ability of the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 05 East Poleang in listening to the news content has not been able to classically. It is said so because students who are able to individually only 67.31% (less than 85%).
