Improving the Students’ Vocabulary Mastery through the Use of Funny Picture at the First Grade of SMP Negeri 1 Tanggetada

This study was carried out to investigate a study of improving the students’ vocabulary mastery through the use of funny picture at the first grade of SMP Negeri 1 Tanggetada. The problem of this study was: How did improve the students’ vocabulary mastery at the first grade of SMP Negeri 1 Tanggetada?. The objective of this study was to describe the data and information whether funny picture could improve the students’ vocabulary mastery of the first grade at SMP Negeri 1 Tanggetada. The significance of the study was: to improve the mastery in vocabulary through the use of the funny picture, to get a good result of the students’ vocabulary, to be an information to English teacher in improving learning and teaching process. The scope of the study was focused on the use of the funny picture in improving the students’ vocabulary mastery of the first grade SMP Negeri 1 Tanggetada.

Design of this study was collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR), the writer collaborated with one of the English teachers to make sure that funny pictures effective and suitable for solving the teaching problem. The setting of the study was SMP Negeri 1 Tanggetada and the subject 21 students of the study was the students of first grade (VII B class) of SMP Negeri 1 Tanggetada who registered in the academic year of 2015/2016. The instruments of this study were vocabulary test and observation sheet.

    The result of this study showed that funny picture could improve students’ vocabulary at the first grade of SMP Negeri 1 Tanggetada. It could be seen from the average students’ value as the improvement of the students’ vocabulary mastery by the funny picture the average value of the student’s mastery was 61,43 in the first cycle there were 11 of 21 students or 47,60% mastery more or equal 66 and it increased became 84,29 in the second cycle. There were 21 of 21 of success that was 100% of the students obtained more or equals 66. The result of the observation sheet showing that the average of the improvement of students’ activities since the first meeting until the fourth meeting was 3,80in the first cycle also the average of the improvement of teacher’s activities since the first meeting until the fourth meeting was 4,27 in the second cycle.
