Enhancing the Students’ Reading Comprehension through Reciprocal Teaching Strategy at the Second Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Watubangga.

This researcher presented about enhancing the students’ reading comprehension through reciprocal teaching strategy at the second-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Watubangga. The question of this research was “how is the improvement of the students’ reading comprehension through reciprocal teaching strategy at the second-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Watubangga in each cycle?”. The objective of this research was to find out the data and information whether implementation reciprocal teaching strategy can improved the students’ reading comprehension at the second-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Watubangga. The scope of this research was focused on improving students’ reading comprehension at the second-grade students of class VIIIa in SMP Negeri 1 Watubangga through reciprocal teaching strategy. The material was focused on narrative text (a bear and a lion, the farmer and his buffalo, the wolf and the goat, the origin of pineapple, the donkey and his lapdog, and snow white and the seven dwarfs).

The design of this research was Collaborative Class Room Action Research (CAR). The subject of this research was the second-grade students and the sample were VIIIa. The data of this research was obtained from the result of reading test and the observation sheet.

The result of this research showed that reciprocal teaching strategy could improve the students’ achievement in reading comprehension at the second grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Watubangga. The improvements could be seen from the result of the students’ average score of the students’ reading achievement. In the first cycle the average score of the students’ achievement was 67.7, there were 15 of 20 students or (75%) students achieved the criteria of success. This score improved become 70.8 in the second cycle, there were 16 of 20 students or (80%) students achieved the criteria of success. Furthermore, the students were actively involved in learning process. It could be seen from the result of analysis observation sheets. The average score in the first cycle was 64,1, it was unsatisfied so improved in the second cycle become 85,5, it was categorized very good. Finally, it was concluded that the implementation of reciprocal teaching strategy as one alternative that could improve the students’ achievement in teaching and learning process.
