Improving the Students’ Reading Comprehension Trhough Skimming at the Second Grade of SMP Negeri 1 Samaturu.

This study was conducted to answer the research question “How is the Improvement the Students’ Reading comprehension Through skimming technique at the second grade of SMPNegeri 1 Samaturu ?” The objective of the research is to find out the data and information about the students’ Reading Comprehension Through skimming at the Second Grade of SMP Negeri 1 Samaturu.

Design of this research was collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR). It means that when doing research, the researcher collaborate with English teacher of SMP Negeri 1 Samaturu.

This research focused on the second grade students. It conducted in second semester of academic year 2016/2017. The subject of the research was class VIII.E, it consist of 26 students. The class was taken one class only.

The instruments used in the research were reading text and observation sheet. In collecting data the reseracher gave a test in first cycle and second cycle to students. The data was analyzed by using qualitative data.

The result of this research showed that there was an improvement of using skimming technique in teaching reading at the second grade students’ of SMP Negeri 1 samaturu. The result of the first cycle was 30,76% for 8 students and second cycle was 92,30% for 24 students. Based on the result on the two cycles, it can be concluded that reading by using skimming technique at the second grade of SMP Negeri 1 Samaturu increase the students’ achievement.

The conclusion of the research in teaching reading text by using skimming technique could improve the students’ comprehension in reading. Both the students and the teacher were actively involved in reading activities. They were entrused and motivated to read text by using scanning technique in English lesson as one of the alternative technique that can be used in teaching of reading.
