Improving the Students’ Vocabulary mastery through Realia at the Second Grade of SMPN 2 Baula
This research was conducted to answer the research question “How can Realia improve the students’ vocabulary mastery at the second grade of SMP Negeri 2 Baula?”. The objective of this research was to describe the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery through realia in each cycle at the second grade of SMPN 2 Baula.
The design of this research was Collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) which applied in order to improve the quality of learning. Furthermore, in conducting this research, researcher collaborated with one of the English teachers at the school. The subject of this research was second grade of students at SMPN
2 Baula, total of the students in this class were 37 students. The procedures of conducting this research were preliminary research, planning, implementing, observing, analyzing and reflecting.
The result of this research showed that realia could improve the students’
achievement in vocabulary mastery at the second grade students of SMPN 2
Baula. The data of this research was obtained from the result of vocabulary test and observation sheets. The improvements could be seen from the first cycle of the students’ average score of the students’ vocabulary achievement. In the first cycle the average score of students’ achievement was 65, 45. There were 17 of 37 students or 45, 94% achieved the criteria of success. This score improved to be
83, 81. There were 34 of 37 students or 91, 89% achieved the criteria of success. Furthermore the students were actively involved in learning process. Finally, it was concluded that the implementation of realia as one of alternative that could improved the students’ achievement in teaching vocabulary.
