The Effects of Silent Demonstration Method towards Students’ Speaking Ability at the First Grade of SMA Negeri 2 Kolaka.

This research conducted about the effect of silent demonstration method toward students’ speaking ability at the first grade of SMA Negeri 2 Kolaka. The research question of this research was there any effect of silent demonstration method towards students’ speaking ability at the first grade of SMA Negeri 2

Kolaka? The objective of this research was to found out the effects of silent demonstration method, the data and information about students’ speaking ability at the first grade of SMA Negeri 2 Kolaka. The scope of this research was focused on the teaching of speaking by silent demonstration method. The material applied procedure text. The review of related literature consisted of some previous researches, the concept of speaking, the concept of procedure text, the concept of silent demonstration method, and theoretical framework. The design of this research was one group pre-test and post-test design. Based on purposive sampling this research consist of two variables, they were independent variable was silent demonstration method and dependent variable was the students’ speaking ability. The sample of this research was class X1 who was registered in

2016/2017 academic year and consisted 18 students. The instruments of this research were speaking test and audio recording. Data collection techniques in this research were giving pre-test, treatment, and post-test. To analyze the data, the researcher used technique of data analysis about scoring technique and significant differences, it used to test the hypothesis. Based on the result of this research it was found that the mean score of pre-test (2,73) was smaller than the mean score of post-test (2,94) it means that the improvement of the students’ speaking ability was 5,25% (0,21) and the value of       (4,565) was bigger than          (2,110) at the significant level 0,05 and degree of freedom (Df) –17, it means that       was rejected and       was accepted. It could conclude that there was an effect of silent demonstration method towards students’ speaking ability at the first grade of SMA Negeri 2 Kolaka.
